Today is National Zucchini Bread Day

Who would have thought that the lowly zucchini would have its own own special day? This April 25th will be National Zucchini Bread Day. The tradition is to bake 2 zucchini breads: one for your family and one to give to a friend. If you grated and froze last year's zucchini harvest, you're on your way to making these delicious loaves of bread

Happy Earth Day

# Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to watch a TV for three hours - it's equivalent to half a gallon of gasoline.

# Earth Day is a relatively new holiday and was first celebrated on April 22 in 1970. More than 20 million Americans participated in this first Earth Day celebration

# Earth Day was founded by a senator of Wisconsin and the day is credited for creating the environmentalism movement.

# April 22 is the first official day of Spring in the Northern hemisphere and of Fall in the Southern hemisphere and was chosen to be Earth Day for this reason.

# Never underestimate the importance of recycling: if every newspaper was recycled, we could save about 250,000,000 trees each year. Unfortunately only 27% of all American newspapers are recycled.

# More than 20,000,000 Hershey's Kisses are wrapped each day, using 133 square miles of tinfoil. All that foil is recyclable, but not many people realize it.

# Only 11% of the earth's surface is used to grow food.

# The world's first national park was started in 1872 at Yellowstone National Park in the US.

# The first major international conference on environmental issues was held in Sweden in 1972 and was sponsored by the United Nations.

# The first wildlife refuge was formed on Pelican Island Florida in 1903.

# The patron Saint of ecologists is St. Francis and the first proclamation of Earth
Day was made by the mayor of San Francisco in 1970.

# A highlight of the annual Earth Day ceremony at the United Nations is the ringing of the Peace Bell that was given to the UN by Japan. It is made from coins given by school children to further peace on our planet.

Today is National Look Alike Day

We’re not going to recognize the obvious holiday celebrated by all those potheads out there. Several sources referenced 4/20 as a “counter-cultural holiday involving consumption of cannabis”. Instead, we chose to recognize a holiday that may be the result of some 4/20-ers mistaking identities! April 20th is Look Alike Day. Have you ever chased someone down or hollered at a person only to find out you mistook them for someone else? If you find yourself doing that today, don’t be too hard on yourself. Celebrate Look Alike Day and embrace the beauty of another person on this planning that happens to be nearly as good-looking as you!

Today is National Garlic Day

Today is April 19th and that marks one of the most important holidays of the year: National Garlic Day. Yes, today is the day to dust off that box of garlic decorations stowed in the closet and display them proudly, then eat whole cloves of garlic as if you would an apple, plant garlic, and, finally, slaughter vampires.

Nobody really knows how National Garlic Day came to be. It’s not officially recorded or documented anywhere. Some people have even renamed it “National Don’t Even Think About Kissing Me Day.” Those who enjoy heartburn, however, consider it Christmas.

But instead of focusing on halitosis caused by garlic’s pungent and spicy aroma, let’s consider the benefits of garlic: it can be used to prevent gangrene, its juice can be used to mend broken glass, and it wards off colds, heart disease, cancer and evil spirits (ironic considering Christian myth says that garlic arose in Satan’s footprint after he left the Garden of Eden, making it the most delicious evil thing on earth).

Let’s celebrate everyone’s favorite human repellent by looking at some ways we eat, honor, and use garlic as weaponry…

Today is National Eight-Track Tape Day

Kids these days. Scooting around on their skateboards, listening to that crazy rap music on their tiny little mp3 players. Those things are getting smaller every year. Surprised they don't just lose them in the folds of their giant sweatshirts or the massive pockets of their baggy jeans. Back in our day, music just wasn't music unless it was recorded on magnetic tape and rolled up in a bulky plastic cartridge that was sensitive to dust and temperature extremes. Yes, I'm talking about the eight-track tape. 46 straight minutes of sweet, sweet music.

Today is National No Housework Day

Step away from the broom, hide the Windex, and pretend the laundry machine does not exist. Today is National No Housework Day, your chance to do anything except for those dreaded tasks. So to appropriately celebrate what is the antithesis of Spring Cleaning, let the dust collect and the dishes pile up, and relax with your friends- guilt free!

Today is National Sorry Charlie Day

Today is "Sorry Charlie Day", and personally, I think that there are two different ways in which you can celebrate this day. First, think about anytime you have been rejected in the past, whether it was applying for a job, being rejected from college, or getting dumped by your boyfriend/girlfriend, and take the time to feel sorry for yourself. Grab some chocolate and go at it, but don't feel sorry for yourself all day, because too much self wallowing is never a good thing.

Second, if your more of an optimist use this day to think about how, whoever rejected you, is missing out on all the great qualities you have and tell them "'sorry charlie' but it's your loss, not mine!"

Today is National Go For Broke Day

Today is your chance to risk it. Gamble and bet it all, luck is on your side because it’s Go For Broke Day! Not a gambler? It’s not necessarily about money, anything goes. From relationships, jobs, projects and basically any decision that has been going through your mind.

How To Celebrate: Go big and put it all on the line. If there’s a project you can’t decide on taking-do it! A relationship issue, depending on the dilemma, could mean the end or the beginning of a forever after. Job related-quit and go for your dream or take that risky step into a promotion.
